Found more cheap watches - Wilon

...to be given as gifts to friends & family without watches.. Here's another Wilon.

There's really nothing much to say about this really. It's a cheap Quartz watch, rectangular case, with clip-on caseback, folded links.

But it's nice enough as a dress watch and simple enough to tell the time. Happy to report that the person who received this is very happy with the gift and a proud wearer.

Rossi Valentino Ladies' Rolex-style Watch

Rossi Valentino Rolex-style ladies' watch.

I've heard of this name before but it was in the form of a professional motorcycle racer (it was actually flipped around - Valentino Rossi)... but this is the first time I heard of this name as a watch brand. Regardless, it features a Quartz, 3 ATM water resistance, with a Rolex-styled stainless steel case, and has a sapphire crystal with magnifying bubble over the date.

Quite nice, for its price.

My Thoughts on the Apple Watch

So Apple finally debut a smartwatch... and I am blown away by the simplicity design, which is classic Apple.

Take the straps and bracelet for example, they are so simply designed and yet easy to change out or resize....  I was adjusting the bracelet on the watches a while back and it was a pain in the fingers, literally, to do so. And that you required tools and a hammer.... while Apple made something that you just a press and clip, with no tools. Bravo!

The computer for the Apple Watch is also amazing, being "computer on a chip" and I am wondering if that module can be upgraded for the future.. honestly speaking, I haven't even look into the software part of the Apple Watch I'm sure it can do so much more, but I am amazed by the straps alone here, and the health monitoring parts are really interesting too, something my doctor probably telling me I need.

Casio and other smartwatch companies should take notice..

Will I buy it? Nah... not now at least... take a look at the title of this blog... poor man's watch blog.... it's a bit expensive enough alone and considering I don't have iPhone to pair it with, so the short answer is no. But it is sometime I would like to own.

Also: the battery life is what make or break this... I wonder if they are solar, just not announced?

My favorite combo is this one, look how the deployment buckle fit seamlessly! :

Cheap Watches on Clearance

I bought some watches from a shop near my office that is going on clearance. How cheap you ask? Well, dirt cheap.. like, for the price of a battery. So I bought 4.

These are "Stainless Steel" watches, with "Water Resistant" rating (and no more than that), with folded metal links (that threatened to go out of alignment when I tried to adjust it) and I suspect it is painted-on chrome, though I can't be sure.

Construction
As mentioned, construction on the bracelets are very poor, which is expected. But who cares if you swap them out to straps, right? The watches themselves have (apparently) Japanese Quartz movements, they - well - they work. Being quartz watches. And at first glance, they actually look quite decent. This works well for people who just want decent watches.

The amazing thing about it is that a very low clearance price, it makes it totally worthwhile to get them as gifts to be given away.

And here they are, in its generic-brand-name-cheap glory! (Sorry for the crappy smartphone photos.)

Wilon. This actually looks nice. This is a women's version.

MK, or Mike Ladies with "gems". Weird brand name, but looks good for a cheap fashion item.

These are matching pairs found. Mike brand.

Victorinox Swiss Army (Prudential)

A long overdue post. I had this picture of this watch from my friend's collection but simply never gotten around to post it. This is a Victorinox Swiss Army quartz with black leather strap:

Unfortunately ruined by the Prudential logo, this watch otherwise has very nice aesthetics.

100M Water Resistance, Prudential logo on the caseback.

"Hegner" Watch 30M Water Resist

Here's a "Hegner" Quartz 30M Water Resist watch I happened to come across and took this with my cellphone. Unfortunately the case back pictures are too blur (this was taken with indoor flourescent lighting at night) so we only have the front shots unfortunately. Never heard of "Hegner", but I suspect it's just one of those generic Chinese watches.

Alba Quartz for the Missus ( VX82-X406)

Just bought an Alba Quartz for the missus. She wanted a new watch, with bracelet "this time". I got her the Alba with black dial with gems, solid-link bracelet(!). Overall fairly high quality piece for the price.

I originally wanted to get her an automatic Orient. But I was not able to get any within a limited time, but on top of that, after some thought there's this issue with her not wearing the automatic watch all the time, which might cause it to wind down and stop, and she might think it's a hassle to set it after that. So a quartz it is.
Black dial, very elegant

My Orient CEM65007B Swapped to a Rubber Strap

Just swapped out to a rubber strap, to prepare for a trip to the swimming pool this evening with my son. I am not going to be completely submerging myself in the pool, but I will definitely get wet. Better be prepared..

Very Nice Ladies Casio G-Shock

Took these photos some time ago of a friend's Casio G-Shock, but neglected to put it up for a while. I forgot to check the model number, but fairly high end watch (can't recall but might be stainless steel or even titanium).

So My EF-125 10 Year Batteries Finally Needed Replacement (Updated)

Alas, it had to happen sooner or later. The 10 year batteries in my EF-125 finally has weakened enough that it stops intermittently at random. I bought this watch in 2009, and it's been 5 years (2014 as I write this), so give or take heat, wear, and some time sitting in shops, it's time to replace the batteries in it soon.

Meanwhile I'll just wear my other watches.

UPDATE: Actually, it works fine now for the past 24 hours. And first thing I did was to check that the crown is pulle out, it's not. So it's a sign that there is some battery low voltage, or some dust has gotten inside and stopped the gears. I will not replace the batts for now.

Jaguar Swiss Quartz

This beauty piece belongs to a friend of mine. He finally stops getting cheap watches and got this Jaguar some months back. Quite a high end watch... And by high end I mean its definitely a step above what I regularly get, fitting (finally) his financial status.

The only "problem" here is that it is Quartz. Well, it's not as charming as a mechanical.

The Jaguar has a Swiss Quartz movement, sapphire crystal and PVD coating. The nice perforated leather strap curves nicely by default, and the crown has some sort of a protected layer on top.

At the end of the day, I totally forgotten to take note of the particular model other than "Jaguar". Initially I had thought it may have something to do with Jaguar, the car company, but the two are apparently unrelated.

RM1 WristWatch (USD 0.30)!

So I was walking back to my car from work one day, and saw one of these vendor-type machines that dispense "eggs", plastic egg-shaped containing toys for RM1 or RM0.50 and what caught my attention was this:

Digital wristwatches!

So I need to give it a try. I put two 50-cent coins in the machine, turned the knob, and -

Tada! A "Time Clue" wrist device. Niiiice.

I got the yellow one. Woo!

Named "Time Clue" (well it's not wrong is it?), this is a digital LCD watch clone of a G-Shock made of very soft transparent plastic. The plastic quality is poor as you would expect, but it holds up well to normal use (for now).

The caseback is made of a black plastic that came off the in the first moments I was handling it. Pressing it back on, it has held on since. I could set the time and date, and it's actually very functional. Time is accurate as well, as can be expected from a digital watch.

Great for young children. I gave it to my 4 year old son. He likes it and can tell the time from it, but does not like wearing it (yet).

Not bad for RM1.. (USD 0.30)
